Amanda Buchanan

Plays with glass

Amanda Buchanan owns and operated Plays with Glass, a one-woman art business. She sells her products, which are made of fused glass and metals (mostly silver), at area festivals and shows and in local shops (like ours!). She co-founded The Athens Art Guild over a decade ago, and currently serves on its board as Vice President. Amanda is a fixture at the Athens Art Guild’s art markets, setting up beside the farmer’s market most Saturdays. She estimates that she has made thousands of jewelry pieces over the years, and delights in seeing her work out in public. Her favorite part of business is interacting with her customers, helping them choose just the right piece to wear or give as a gift. Currently she is working to expand her skillset by branching into torch-fired enameling.

Amanda holds a BA in psychology and a Master of Social Work degree. Between three states and a foreign country, she worked as a social worker for 30 years before retiring to pursue art and art administration full time.
